Gourmet Deli Sandwich, ala Kent

kentwich.jpg

I’m eating a late lunch today, but at least it’s something from my own kitchen. No fast food for me. If you want stay thin and live healthy, McDonalds Quarter pounder with fries are not on the menu. The best food comes right from your own kitchen. I shed the stereotype that men can’t cook - although I am a bachelor I happen to be an excellent cook. Louisiana creole, German, Italian, Americana…you name it I cook it. I am particularly creative when it comes to sandwiches. Today I whipped up one of my special gourmet deli sandwiches, ala Kent, that’s good enough to be sold at a deli counter. If only you could taste it yourself. Well maybe you can. If you want my recipe for creating this delicious (and easy to make) sandwich, I’ll show you how.

A Trip Down Fast Food’s Memory Lane

Does anyone remember Burger Chef? This fast food chain was started by brothers Frank and Dave Thomas (creator of Wendy’s) back in the 1960’s, and was later acquired by General Foods as an experimental venture into the fast food market, which ultimately failed. The chain was later sold to Hardee’s who then converted the franchise into Hardee’s Restaurants. Bet you didn’t know that.

Burger Chef existed long before my time. I was only a wee little lad when this business was in operation, but I do vaguely remember the Burger Chef that existed in my old hometown.

Anyway, I stumbled upon this video on YouTube for a Burger Chef Star Wars ad that once aired on TV in 1977, which should give you an idea of how old this chain was.

New Template, Work in Progress

elitist.jpg

In case you’re wondering why various sections of the blog don’t look quite right, this is because I’m in the middle of implementing a new tempate design, but I still haven’t fully formatted all the various Movabletype core template files. I should have the entire process complete by later tonight or early tomorrow. My ultimate goal is to migrate over to Wordpress, but that’s going to take some time to delve into.

In the meantime thanks for visting and mind the wet paint. :-)

Open Source Has Holes Too

What’s this? Open Source isn’t made from galvanized code, impervious to attack? This can’t be! Only Micro$oft software has vulnerabilities, right? Call me sick, but I get smile on my face every time a flaw is discovered in Linux or other notable open source software. It just further validates my long standing belief that “free” software is actually just as bad, if not worse, in terms of security and reliability as any commercial product. Security is an illusion. Every piece of software written by human hand has holes. If you don’t believe me, disable your firewall in Linux and OSX and post your IP address. Then sit back and wait for vandals to have their fun with your supposedly “secure” system.

Yes, Windows may be full of holes, but at the end of the day, so is any other OS developed outside Fortress Redmond. Link
