Bob, for those of you who don’t know, was Microsoft’s misguided effort to develop a friendly graphical interface for common consumers, back in the mid-1990s. Apparently Microsoft believed that home users were too either stupid to use a computer or lacked the aptitude and adaptive learning to ever use one. The solution they came up with was to turn Window’s desktop shell into a hideous task-based cartoon environment, complete with animated characters. The idea never took off, fortunately, but from Bob’s ashes rose an even more dreaded figure that would make it’s way into MS Office; the infamous “Clippy” office assistant.
I’m eating a late lunch today, but at least it’s something from my own kitchen. No fast food for me. If you want stay thin and live healthy, McDonalds Quarter pounder with fries are not on the menu. The best food comes right from your own kitchen. I shed the stereotype that men can’t cook - although I am a bachelor I happen to be an excellent cook. Louisiana creole, German, Italian, Americana…you name it I cook it. I am particularly creative when it comes to sandwiches. Today I whipped up one of my special gourmet deli sandwiches, ala Kent, that’s good enough to be sold at a deli counter. If only you could taste it yourself. Well maybe you can. If you want my recipe for creating this delicious (and easy to make) sandwich, I’ll show you how.
Every web designer has his or hers favorite font for use in graphic elements. For me it’s Avenir. I love its clean simple lines, elegant curvatures, and classic look. There are few applications I haven’t found for it. Whether designing a modern looking (web 2.0) design or classical motif, Avenir just looks beautiful.
When it comes to highly addictive unhealthy snack foods, Snyder’s Honey Mustard & Onion Pretzel pieces are like crack to your taste buds. Wickedly tasty. Even a skinny guy such as myself can devour an entire bag in as much time as it takes Paris Hilton to drain a Martini. They’re that good! Find them in your local food store.
Where to buy?
Snyder’s Pretzel Pieces: “Generous chunks of our Sourdough Hard Pretzels bursting with intense flavor combinations…like the delectable honey mustard and toasted onion in our Honey Mustard & Onion Pretzel Pieces.”
You can find Snyder’s Pretzel pieces in just about any store where snack foods are sold.
Well I finally bit the bullet and purchased a MacBook, though with some hesitation. Don’t mention the fact that Apple charges outrageous premium pricing for the black model or I will drop into a fetal position and throw a tantrum. But I have to admit the white motif is growing on me, and the design is simply beautiful.
Enjoy the MacBook pR0n. Visit my Flickr gallery for more photos.
SixApart today unveiled its next generation blogging platform, MovableType 4, and is open sourcing the software. The new release, now in beta, sports more than 50 new features the company hopes will put it on a competitive edge with other corporate blog platforms.
MovableType, which this very blog you’re reading is published on, is the granddaddy of blogging platforms and once reigned supreme in its time. That is until an upstart open source platform called WordPress came along and took the online world by storm. SixApart hopes it can make up for lost ground by reaching out to developers and making its software free. They’re moving in the right direction, but WordPress is now a major contender they will have to confront.
A strange surprise awaited me when I booted up my Vista PC this morning; something had apparently tripped Microsoft’s infamous Windows Genuine Advantage either during the previous shutdown or startup. An alert window appeared on my login display demanding that unless I activate (actually re activate) my copy of Vista immediately, WGA would henceforth hold my PC hostage. In Lehman’s terms Vista would operate in “reduced function mode” until reactivation would allow me back into full user-rights mode. Great way to start off a morning, especially since this workstation contains much of my work for paying clients!
